How to Meditate

A rare chance to meet this acclaimed author and meditator in her only public appearance in Australia!

with Venerable Sangye Khadro (Kathleen McDonald), Author How to Meditate

When we take time to contemplate we begin to see that the main source of happiness and unhappiness is our own mind. And the key to transforming the mind - increasing the positive and decreasing the negative mental states - is the practice of meditation. Peace begins in the mind and a peaceful mind benefits both ourselves and those around us. We can create peace in our busy lives using simple meditation techniques to reduce stress and promote quality of life.

Venerable Sangye Khadro is one of the most experienced and engaging teachers of meditation in the world. Her book How to Meditate (published in her pre-ordination name, Kathleen McDonald) has been a standard mediation manual for almost twenty years. She has been a nun since 1974 and spent many years as a resident teacher in Singapore.

In this workshop, Ven Khadro will talk about the importance of meditation in our lives and the variety of meditations available. She will explain the fundamentals of meditation and the ways to overcome problems that arise in our daily meditation practice. We will learn to use meditation as a way of deepening our understanding of our mind and transforming it.

A variety of simple yet profound meditations will be introduced with a ‘hands-on’ approach. Participants will have a chance to learn and experience Buddhist meditation methods (mainly from the Tibetan tradition).

Topics covered include:
• what is meditation and why should we do it?
• two main kinds of meditation: stabilising and analytical
• the meditation posture
• meditation on the breath
• dealing with problems that occur during meditation
• meditation on loving-kindness
• how to meditate on your own

This workshop will be a wonderful introduction to the weekend Mind & Its Potential Conference.  Workshop can also be booked separately as a stand alone event.
