Many people are interested in the brain and how understanding it can help us understand ourselves and those around us. But most of us aren't neuroscientists and knowing what to make of the "pretty pictures" of the brain in Time magazine can be daunting. Dr. Lieberman is a neuroscientist who spends a lot of time teaching non-neuroscientists how to understand the brain in simple straightforward terms.

The workshop will cover:

  • how to orient yourself when looking at or reading about a brain
  • the strengths and weaknesses of techniques like functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)
  • the brain networks involved in thinking, remembering and deciding
  • the networks involved in emotion and mood
  • the brain networks involved in thinking about other people and yourself
