For over 30 years Karen Carey has dedicated her life to engaging all children through a musical journey. She was appointed Director of Music at MLC School in 1989 where she set about developing the committed program of excellence in musical education that is a hallmark of the MLC musical community. Karen has led her students on numerous international music tours acclaimed for their high standard of performance, as well as performances in the Opera House, Angel Place and other historic venues. Her outstanding contribution to music education was recognised in 2007 with a national award for excellence presented by the federal Education minister. Karen's vision has been lauded in the award winning documentary 'Mrs. Carey's Concert', which has been very well accepted by public and critics alike 'Smile and be brilliant!' Karen is very aware that a big thank you is needed to the parents who support their children in their musical endeavors. A musically engaged child has an enormous contribution to make to an active and cultured society.
