Peer Support Australia
The Peer Support Program is a universal, mental health promotion program implemented in both Primary and Secondary schools throughout Australia. It is based on the evidence that young people who are connected to their school and peers do better than those who are disconnected. It develops some of the protective factors required to counter negative influences in a young person's life. The Peer Support Program can change the culture in a school by improving the connections between the students and the relationships with staff. It helps reduce the level of bullying and develops young people who take personal responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. The program is evidence based and supported by independent research and impacts on over 200,000 students each year. Peer Support Australia is a not-for-profit organisation supported by NSW Health and the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
